This slice of small town America is entitled "County Seat" by renowned artist Randy Souders.
This image offers a glimpse into the daily life of "Anytown, USA" where "old timers" gathered to sit on public benches, to watch cars and people pass by, and discuss events of the day.
While this is not a specific town square, the courthouse itself is closely based ona combination of two located roughly 50 miles from the artist's Fort Worth home. One can be found in Decatur (Wise County) and the other Waxahachie (Ellis County), Texas. Other variations exist around the state so everyone feels they've "been there." This painting was created to celebrate the look and feel of the typical county courthouse erected during the “golden age” of their building in the "Lone Star" state.
In 1984-85 this painting was featured on the cover of millions of Southwestern Bell telephone books all over Texas. Countless people became familiar with Randy and his work through this mass exposure. This painting also served as the inspiration for several other works featuring scenes around this imaginary town square.
As with all his work, you'll want to look for the artists' trademark "Tom cat." This print will be the perfect addition to any traditional, small town Americana, rural nostalgia, “Texana” or law collection!
